My teaching philosophy is the goal is to encourage students to feel at ease with math. Our jobs as educators are to help others feel excited about mathematics and allow them to see how math is useful. The fun thing about math is that there can be multiple solutions to any given problem. Math is helpful especially when it is taught in a way that makes sense. It provides a way for people to quantify, compare, and also measure variables. Mathematics proves best for solving problems and also finding ways to optimize data. In my perspective, having an open dialectic approach motivates students, by having their input, so we could work to find the best fit strategy together. Orli holds a BA with Honors from Dartmouth College and MAs from Yale University and Stanford University. I currently teach in Manhattan on the Lower East Side. I work for a District 75 school and teach middle school age students with Autism. Every job I have held, whether in a classroom or at a day camp, has been working with children. I love seeing a child’s eyes light up when the succeed and helping them figure out the best way toward success. I studied general elementary education at SUNY Cortland. Nick has extensive experience in standardized testing (both math and verbal), high school and middle school mathematics, and competition mathematics. In my ten years of teaching, one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had is helping my students sharpen their reading and writing skills, as they are the avenue for all subjects. Megan is a writer and artist with a passion for philosophy, creative storytelling, and illustration. She is currently a PhD candidate in Philosophy at Fordham University. She earned her undergraduate degree from Loyola University Chicago, double majoring in Political Science and Philosophy with a specialization in Social Justice. Megan has been teaching for the past 5 years in a variety of subject areas ranging from English and Social Sciences to Pre-Calculus and standardized test prep. Teaching is her passion and the primary reason she is pursuing a PhD. In addition to teaching, Megan also works as editor, writer, illustrator and cofounder of the Madwoman Collective with several other writers and academics. Matthew is an engineer and writer. He is a native New Yorker who attended Brooklyn Tech, and later Penn State and Georgia Tech where he continued his studies in Mechanical and Bio Engineering. In addition to studying abroad in Poland and France, Matthew’s pursuits have taken him aboard NASA’s Weightless Wonder where he conducted experiments in microgravity. He has been published Developmental Dynamics where his paper was highlighted as “new and innovative.” He is now earning his MFA in Creative Writing at The New School, studying Writing for Children, and has been published in several literary magazines.Matthew Futterman is an engineer and writer.

I have worked in an elementary and middle school for over 15 years teaching all subject areas, with an extensive background in Special Education. I am trained in various reading intervention programs and techniques, such as the Orton Gillingham approach, PAF, and the Wilson Reading Program. I have also worked with students individually, as well as in small groups to help develop and improve their decoding and encoding skills. I attended Fordham University for my undergraduate degree as well as my Master’s degree in Childhood and Special Education. Marco Muzio earned his PhD in Physics at New York University in 2021. Before that he earned an MS and MPhil in Physics from NYU and a BS in Math and Physics from Northeastern University. Since earning his PhD, Marco has worked as an NSF postdoctoral research fellow at Pennsylvania State University and the University of Wisconsin–Madison. As a graduate student at NYU, Marco earned several awards for teaching and led a graduate course on teaching physics. He has experience working with students from the high school to the graduate level on physics, math, and scientific programming. Marco’s research is in astroparticle physics, searching for the origins of the highest energy particles ever observed: ultrahigh energy cosmic rays. His work spans theory and experiment. In his free time, Marco enjoys running, ultimate frisbee, and is learning Italian.

My name is Mara Harnett. After raising my two sons, I earned my Master’s Degree in Education and became an elementary school teacher. I then completed two-year training with the Orton-Gillingham Academy for teaching Sturctured Literacy. Hello! My name is Katie, and I have a Masters in Public Health in Epidemiology from Columbia University with a focus in Global Health. During my first year in my masters program I worked at Harlem Children Zone Promise Academy where I tutored math for high school students. Before moving to NYC for my masters, I worked in Burkina Faso with the Peace Corps where I taught health education, ESL, and math. Hello! My name is Jasmine. I discovered my passion for teaching while volunteering as an English teacher for migrant schools within Shanghai during my undergraduate years at NYU Shanghai. Hi Everyone! I grew up in Saint Louis Missouri and went to a wonderful high school there called John Burroughs School. While there my love of learning and science was fostered as by performing ecological projects, training rats to do cognitive puzzles, and overall how to think critically. My passions for animal behavior was then further developed during my undergraduate at Duke University where I worked in a baboon behavior lab, the Duke lemur center with live lemurs, and even made and shot arrowheads into ballistic gel for a published research paper. After graduating I spent a year living in the field in Kenya working as a research assistant for a Spotted Hyena behavior lab, and then went on to grad school at the University of New Mexico to study wild Chimpanzees for my masters in Evolutionary Anthropology. Soon after graduating, I felt that I could really help fellow researchers
