Why NYC Families Choose Central Park Tutors for ADHD Support

New York City is home to some of the finest special needs training programs in the country — at Hunter, NYU, Columbia, and beyond. This means we are able to find exceptionally well-trained teachers who have chosen this area of education as their vocation from the start. We also draw from private and public schools that specialize in learning differences, and from city programs with long histories of working with students who need varied learning approaches.

What Our ADHD and Executive Functioning Coaches Do

Our tutors know how to assess academic levels appropriately for students with learning differences, and they are well versed in both structured curricula and in finding high-interest material at the appropriate level for each student.

Executive functioning coaching addresses the organizational, time management, prioritization, and emotional regulation skills that underpin academic success. For many students with ADHD, building these skills changes everything — not just in school, but in their relationship with learning itself.

While only neuropsychologists should provide full diagnostic evaluations, our experienced teachers know the signs of learning difficulties and know how to work effectively with students who have already been diagnosed. We also have relationships with psychologists in New York City we can recommend if a full evaluation is needed.

For families looking for additional resources on ADHD and learning differences, CHADD (Children and Adults with ADHD) and the Understood.org are excellent starting points.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is executive functioning coaching?

Executive functioning refers to the mental processes that help people plan, organize, manage time, and regulate their emotions and attention. Students with ADHD often struggle with these skills — not because they are not smart, but because their brains work differently. Executive functioning coaching builds concrete strategies for organization, prioritization, task initiation, and self-monitoring.

Do you work with students who have not been formally diagnosed?

Yes. While we are not in a position to diagnose learning differences (only neuropsychologists can do that), we are experienced at recognizing the signs and working with students who are struggling regardless of formal diagnosis. We can also refer you to trusted neuropsychologists in New York City if an evaluation is needed.

What age range do your ADHD tutors work with?

We work with students from elementary school through college. ADHD coaching looks different at different ages — elementary students need concrete external structures while high school and college students need more internalized self-management strategies. Our tutors tailor their approach accordingly.

How is ADHD tutoring different from regular tutoring?

Regular tutoring focuses on subject content. ADHD and executive functioning coaching focuses on the underlying skills that allow a student to learn and succeed across all subjects — organization, focus, time management, emotional regulation, and study habits. Many students need both.
