Who We Are — The People Behind Central Park Tutors
Central Park Tutors was founded on a simple belief: great teaching begins with listening. We are a deliberately small agency, and we keep it that way intentionally — because staying small is how we maintain the standards that matter.
Every tutor on our team holds a Master’s Degree. Every student gets careful, personal attention. And every match between student and tutor is made thoughtfully, not automatically.
Mike Wallach
Founder & DirectorMike graduated with honors in Philosophy from Cornell University and holds a Master’s Degree from Columbia University. He was Director of the Cornell Education Department Tutoring Program, for which he won the “Innovation In Public Service Award.”
He spent years in Teenage Conflict Resolution, winning the National CINDY Silver Prize for “Best New Educational Material” for his curriculum “Teaching Peace,” and co-authored The Enemy Has A Face for the United States Institute of Peace. He became a contributing writer for The American Prospect and a Presidential Fellow with the US State Department, where his analysis was delivered to the Secretary of State, the White House, and the National Security Council.
Mike wrote the screenplay for the Hollywood film The Bay, directed by Oscar winner Barry Levinson, and recently wrote Puzzles For Young Children, a preparation book for 4–6 year olds facing kindergarten entrance tests.
Susana Kraglievich
Co-Founder & Literacy DirectorSusana is a reading expert, particularly for dyslexic children, and an accredited associate fellow of the Orton-Gillingham Academy — the nation’s oldest and most rigorous literacy program.
She began her teaching career in 2000 as part of the first cohort of the New York City Teaching Fellows program, teaching ninth and tenth grade humanities. She then became Academic Director at a private school for the nation’s premier young tennis players, and founding librarian at P.S. 126.
Susana’s deep expertise in structured literacy is the foundation of Central Park Tutors’ work with dyslexic students and struggling readers — making Central Park Tutors one of the only NYC tutoring agencies genuinely led by a literacy specialist.
Our Tutors
Beyond our founders, our team is made up of a carefully selected group of master’s-degree teachers — each personable, each deeply experienced in their subject, and each committed to the kind of teaching that genuinely changes students’ lives. We stay small so that every tutor we work with meets this standard, and so that we can match each student with exactly the right person.
Our tutors have attended and graduated from Hunter, Stuyvesant, and Brooklyn Tech, then gone on to Harvard, Dartmouth, Columbia, and other top universities. They have also trained at NYU, Hunter College, and Columbia in special education, literacy, and learning differences.
