I’ve been tutoring New York City students since 2017 and have experience in tutoring high school entrance exams (SHSAT, SSAT, ISEE) and the SAT/ACT. I’ve helped students get into Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, and Lehman. I believe every child is bright and has the ability to learn; over the years, I’ve been surprised again and again by the different kinds of intelligence I see. As a tutor, I teach the underlying critical thinking skills to succeed on tests, emphasize learning strategies, and keep my students engaged by encouraging them to solve problems themselves. Besides teaching, I’ve worked in arts and media, and in 2021, made a career transition to software engineering. I have a BS in English from Rutgers University and an MS in Computer Science from NYU. In college, I worked as a research assistant in a cognition lab, studying memory. I’m a voracious reader, and see reading, writing, thinking, and teaching as interrelated activities.
I’ve been rock climbing for about a decade and mentor new climbers in outdoor skills. I’ve also coached kids in competition bouldering, where the kids are usually stronger climbers than me!
