I’m an English teacher and tutor who loves helping students figure out what they actually want to say and then helping them say it well. I have an M.A. in the Teaching of English from Teachers College, Columbia University, and I’ve taught students from elementary school through high school in a variety of classroom settings. I tutor reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, literary analysis, and essay writing, as well as school assignments and college application essays.
My approach is structured but conversational. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and trying out ideas without worrying that there’s a “right” answer they’re supposed to find. At the same time, I’m very focused on helping students develop concrete skills: how to read closely, build an argument, organize a paragraph, make their writing more precise, and revise instead of simply starting over. Most importantly, I want students to leave our sessions feeling more confident than when they arrived. Whether a student is struggling with a particular assignment, wants to become a stronger writer, or is looking for a little extra challenge, I try to meet them where they are and help them take the next step.
