Annika

Annika Karody is a teacher across reading, writing, and math. She previously worked as an editorial assistant at Penguin Random House, where she edited titles such as Rio Cortez's National Book Award-nominated poetry collection "Golden Ax," Barbie Latza Nadeau's long-form journalistic work "The Godmother," and Tim Murphy's novel, "Speech Team." She graduated magna cum laude from UCLA in December 2019 with her undergraduate degree in Human Biology and Society, and a minor in English. Her time in publishing sparked her passion for helping people write, and her time studying biology imbued her with a deep love of math and science. She has spent the past five years working closely with third, fourth and fifth grade students as an ELA and Math specialist brought in to help children at Charter schools strengthen their academic foundations.  In the late afternoons, Annika works as an academic mentor with a non-profit that helps high school girls who are struggling with difficult home lives stay and succeed in school.  In the evenings, she leads poetry workshops for adults. In her free time, you can find her writing, acting, playing music around the city, and just plain old hanging out.
