I am an experienced educator with over 15 years of classroom teaching in all elementary grades (Kindergarten – fifth). In addition, I have 15 years of experience developing and delivering professional development and one-on-one coaching to teachers to improve instruction and ensure each student’s learning needs are addressed. I have a master’s in education from Lesley College in Cambridge, MA and a BA from Oberlin college. I believe that students learn best in safe, comfortable environments that also challenge students at their edge of understanding – finding that learning edge is critical and done through careful observation, conversation, exploration and assessment. I have taught all subject areas and supported students to prepare for MA state tests taken in third and fifth grades. I’m passionate about working with students who have come to believe that reading isn’t for them or that they simply aren’t good at math. I see these moments as opportunities to nurture curiosity, build confidence, and help students develop a genuine enjoyment of learning. Success in school is, of course, building content knowledge. But it is very satisfying to support a student to build “school skills” - How do I get started? How do I prioritize? How do I break down this big task? I grew up running in Central Park and now run circles in Prospect Park. Brooklyn is my new home and I am loving it!
